VIEWS AT AND NEAR DANDENONG.
This small representation of Dandenong in 1881 was originally published in the Australian Sketcher with Pen and Pencil on 15 January 1881, which wrote: —
THE little township of Dandenong is prettily situated on the creek of the same name, and at the foot of the Dandenong Ranges, so well known to Melbourne holiday visitors to the famous Fern-tree Gully. Dandenong is also on the Gipps Land line of railway, and on the great three-chain road to Gipps Land. The scenery around is diversified and picturesque, and the country is applied to agriculture and pasture, save the large state forest on the ranges, which contains some of the largest and tallest trees known to exist in Victoria, and indeed in the world. A large number of Melbourne residents have secured holdings in the district, which they intend to use as country residences.
