Remembering the Past Australia

Remembering the Past Australia is a site dedicated to providing copies of original articles and resources, with the aim of shedding new light on the lives of ordinary people as they made a life for themselves and their families in colonial Australia and beyond. These articles and stories provide a different perspective of our richly layered history that capture the human spirit, connecting us with the history of ourselves, our families, our communities and with our great country.

Hi, my name is Lorraine. I'm a Family History Researcher currently studying Family History at the University of Tasmania. I created this site as a personal interest project.  I am not an historian nor claim to be a professional in the field, however I've always loved history and had a fascination about the lives and times of our ancestors.

Remembering the Past Australia is a place for anyone researching their family history and/or is interested in Australia's early colonial history, through federation and beyond, who enjoy interesting stories or seeing what Australia looked like so many years ago.

I hope you will enjoy exploring these fascinating resouces, the real stories of the generations who have gone before us in Australia.

  1. Hi Lorraine - just wanted to say congratulations for all the work you're doing - there are less givers than receivers in this world so you belong to an elite group!

    1. Hi Susie - Thank you so much for your kind words. It was my goal to help people find free resources for Australian ancestry research and to bring to light the many interesting stories and pictures of our past. I'm really happy that so many people are finding Remembering the Past Australian a useful and enjoyable resource.
