Sydney Police Reports for 26 July 1826


FRIDAY, July 26.

John Rochford, free, charged with embesseling [sic] flour from his master, Mr. Hankinson, to whom he acted as foreman in his bake-house; fully committed for trial.

Mary Bankes, free, an old offender, found lying drunk in the streets; sentenced for 3 hours in the stocks.

Michael Landryan, prisoner of the crown for 7 years, charged by his master, Mr. D. D. Mathew, with having been absent from his service for two days, having been sent to his farm, from Sydney, with provisions, on Wednesday last, and not arriving there until Saturday at noon; treadmill for 10 days, and returned to Government.

Thomas Napper, prisoner of the crown for life, a runaway from the Prisoners' Barrack since the 17th instant, and apprehended this morning at a public house on the Rocks, in the act of drinking wine; treadmill for 14 days, and returned to his station.
