View at Rose Hill 1792 (New South Wales)

On the 2nd November 1788 the settlement at Rose Hill was founded, 23 km to the west of Sydney. Governor Phillip named a hill at the site after George Rose, Secretary for the British Treasury. Governor Phillip went on to established a government farm and laid out the township in June 1790.

In 1883 the suburb of Rosehill was created when part of Elizabeth Farm was subdivided and sold. Part of the farm was also made into a recreation area including the racecourse in 1885.
