An Association has been formed, in connexion with the Society for the Propagation of the Gospel, to assist the Colonists, now settling in South Australia, in providing for themselves the means of Public Worship and Religious Instruction, according to the doctrines of the Church of England.

Measures are in progress for securing the erection of a Church, a residence for the Clergyman, and a School, in the new Settlement; but to accomplish these objects assistance from this country is absolutely necessary ; and the Committee earnestly solicit the contributions of those who are alive to the great importance of making the introduction of the Christian Church co-ordinate with the first planting of a Colony which may hereafter, under the Divine blessing, be the centre of light and truth, as well as of commerce and the arts, to the vast regions in which it is placed.

The Rev. C. B. Howard, M.A., recommended by the Bishop of Chester, and approved by the Bishop of London, has been appointed to the Chaplaincy by Lord Glenelg.
