The following colour prints were first published in: The History of New South Wales, including Botany Bay, Port Jackson, Pamaratta (sic), Sydney, and all its Dependances, from the Original Discovery of the Island with the Customs and Manners of the Natives and an Account of The English Colony, from its Foundation, to the Present Time, by George Barrington: Superintendent of the Convicts. Vincent Woodthorpe (1764?-1822)

Vincent Woodthorpe was a print and map engraver, as well as a copperplate printer. Woodthorpe was born in Stepney in approximately 1764, the son of Vincent Woodthorpe, a victualler, and Elizabeth Waterhouse, who married in 1763. He began his career as an apprentice tinplate worker to Garnet Terry from 8 Jan 1778.  He later set up his own premises at 27 Fetter Lane, London 1796-1809 and 29 Fetter Lane, London 1800-1822. Woodthorpe engraved a number of the illustrations for Barrington’s account of the colony of New South Wales; the subjects were based on earlier issued engravings in First Fleet journals.
