Directions for Making Good & Common Soap 1895

SOAP (Common). - 10 lbs. of double refined caustic soda; put in 4 1/2 galls, of water, add 75 lbs. of clean fat and boil. To make caustic soap add 1 lb. of resin.

SOAP. (good). - 20 lbs. clean grease, 17 lbs. white potash, boil the grease and pour hot on the potash; 1 lb. of borax, 1 lb. of resin dissolved in two buckets of hot water, pour on top of grease, stir, and let stand till next day; 36 gall. cask.
